About Tour

The Carian Trail trekking route is 800 km. It is Turkey’s longest trekking route, stretching from the Mediterranean to the Aegean with its length. The Caria trekking tour routes are within the borders of the Inner Caria region, which includes the peninsula surrounding the Datça coasts, starting from the Marmaris coastline, Bozburun, Gökova Bay and the inner parts of the Caria region.

The trekking routes of the Carian Way consist of 46 main stages. We complete these stages by planning one-day programs and enjoying swimming at the end of the walk. The Karia trekking tour includes ancient cities, ancient ports, almond trees, olive trees, villages with stone houses and unique beaches. The routes include pleasant and easy walks as they consist of coastal, less sloping lands. The altitude taken in the Karia trekking tour is in the range of 0-300 m.

What to bring

Swimming costume, mosquito repellent, 1 long –sleeved shirt/top, small rucksack, cycle gloves if you have them, sports shoes/ sandals/ water shoes with good grip, to wear in the water (not slip-ons), suncream, sunglasses and sunhat, 1 litre water bottle, socks, T-shirt and shorts to get wet, comfortable shoes

Weather Conditions

Summers in southwest Turkey are hot and dry, especially in July and August. May, June and September and October are a little cooler- still shorts and T-shirt weather at most times, with the possibility of occasional showers. The weather is generally very settled and predictable. Because of the high risk of sunburn it is important to take all necessary precautions.

Minimum age

10 years old (with legal guardian) For private family groups with younger children w emay be able to arrange a customized trip that includes some of these activities, by tailoring the length and difficulty of the activities accordingly. Please ask for further details.

Group Size

4-12 people – we believe that the smaller the group the more genuine the experience.

Health

No vaccination certificates are legally required for entry into Turkey. Check with your doctor for up-to-date information on recommended protection. Generally protection against Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Polio and Typhoid is advised. Malaria does not ocur in Turkey except in low-lying parts in the southeast, so should not be of concern.

Insurance

We strongly recommend that you take out personal travel insurance, to cover medical expenses and other travel risks such as loss of baggage, cancellation etc.

Important notes:

We will carry all our belongings in our vehicle and we will only use our small backpack containing water and a sandwich during the walk.

Recommended materials: Hiking boots or suitable sneakers, poles, raincoat, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, fly repellent, your marine gear, spare clothes, spare shoes, sandals or slippers, water canteen or water bottle, small backpack, hair dryer machine, personal medicines, camera and batteries, various snacks, dried fruit, fruit.

Who Can Participate: Those who want to walk the most beautiful tracks of the world-famous Ancient Caria road, Anyone who likes walking, nature sports and different activities can participate.

The activity is also open to participants who say “I don’t want to walk, I will rest in the magnificent nature”.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrival in Dalaman Airport.Transfer to hotel.(30mins)

You meet our tour guide and driver at Dalaman airpot.Transfer to Dalyan. Dalyan is a popular town among Turkish and foreign visitors.It is situated on the east banks of the river which stretches between Köyceğiz Lake and Iztuzu lagoon.Depending on arrival time we have an optional orientation tour of Dalyan.Overnight stay in Dalyan

DAY 2 Cruise to Iztuzu (turtle)beach,walk from Caunos to Ekincik (5 hrs)

Today we board our riverboat and cruise to turtle beach through the reeds where famous movie ‘African Queen’ was filmed. It is 7 km long sandy beach which is one of the main nesting spots of Caretta Caretta loggerhead sea turtles.Then we cruise to Caunos.It was a significant trade city exporting timber,salt,fruits and olive oil until it’s harbour was silted up.It also suffered from malaria during Roman period which caused a big decrease of the city population.Theatre,temple and forum are the notable remains of the city.We start to walk from Çandır village near Caunos.The route lead us through pine forest to bay of Ekincik.You have a chance to swim at Ekincik bay before we drive to hotel in Kumlubuk.Overnight stay at Kumlubuk near Turunc.

DAY 3 Walk from Amos to Kayalıozu (6 hrs)

We have a short transfer to the ruins of Amos near the small resort of Turunç.We walk along the beach of Kumlubük then ascend to hill top.We enjoy tremendous view of Çiftlik bay from top.We visit an early Byzantine church ruins en route before we dip down into the valley.We finish at the village of Kayalıözü.Transfer to Selimiye.Stay in Selimiye.

DAY 4 Walk Bahçeli to Bozburun via Taslıca village (7hrs)

Today we drive to village of Bahçeli.The route ascends gradually with fantastic view of Rhodes ısland.The path continues above the dramatic coastline to inland village of Taşlıca.We then descend to Bozburun bay with a glimpse of isles of Eagean.We finish at the bay of Bozburun.At the end of the walk we can stroll around charming fishing hamlet.Drive to Selimiye.Stay in Selimiye.

DAY 5 Walk Bayır to Turgut via Hydas (5hrs)

We have a short drive to village of Bayır.It is an authentic village surrounded by massive plane trees.We have a tea break at village square.The path follows a forest road to mountain pass then it descends along the stream.We have a picnic lunch near waterfall.We continue our walk through the ancient city of Hydas.It’s one of the virgin sites of Caria.It is located on the ridge overlooking fertile lands and Selimiye bay.Surrounding walls,tower and unique pyramidal tomb are notable ruins of the city. We then dip down to Turgut.Transfer to Selimiye.

DAY 6 Walk from Kizlan to Karaköy (5 hrs)

In the morning we drive to Kızlan.The route ascends over Datça peninsula with a breathtaking view of turquoise coastline.It undulates towards shepherd cottages and descends to the beach at Karaköy.We have a swim break to relieve the tiredness of the walk then stroll around the charming old fishing town of Datça.Stay in Datça.

DAY 7 Walk from Bükceğiz to Knidos (6 hrs)

We have a short drive to Bükceğiz.Trail starts from the picturesque cove of Bükceğiz and climbs along the coast on a mule path.It continues diagonally over the valleys towards the defensive walls of Knidos.Then it descends to the ancient harbour.Our walk continues to the western tip of the peninsula called Dereboynu where Aegean meets Mediterranean.We meet our bus and drive to Datça.Stay in Datça.

DAY 8 Transfer to Dalaman Airport (2.5 hrs)

We drive to Dalaman airport.
